on start up, makes a high pitched noise

have a 1980 rx7, and on start up it will make a high pitched noise. I was just wondering what is wrong, and hoping that someone here knows what my problem is.

you know when you start it the muffler (the stock one) has bearings than when it is'nt hot or when it's cold it restricts the exhaust which in turn makes it warm up faster usually within 5 minutes of driving and then it will open up for you to have full exhaust flow. the bearings usually go bad when you have over a 100,00 miles on it and they are only about 5k to replace so you might want to get new ones.

PS: if you read all that it was a joke hahaha. i'm gonna go now.

Yeap that's why I got a Power Pulse muffler. The bearings are guaranteed for 300k miles or your money back.

i'm not convinced it isn't a belt. cold belts can squeak pretty easily. do you have the air pump hooked up?

It could be the hot start assist motor complaining. Mine does that when it's cold outside and the motor hasn't been started in a half hour or so. Sounds like a high pitched squealing.

Hey. I have an 83 that does the same thing. It sounds like no oil on a bearing. I know its not because the engine doesnt load like its dry. Also have good oil pressure. Allmost like a bearing in the alt. Doesnt do it when warm. So I dont worry about it.

Yea, except the only thing about it is kinda annoying, it doesn’t matter if it cold, or at operating temperatures or what the weather is, so thanks to all who have posted, and the ones that made me laugh.
