Start to a great day!

So as I pulled into the garage at work and was on my way up, as I turned the corner I heard a pop and all of a sudden as i went to turn left... my car wouldnt turn and I came close to a wall... I managed to get it into a parking spot and looked under the car to find the steering linkage to my passenger side and came off and was just hanging there... What holds it there, I was thinking a 14mm with a pin in the top but i could be wrong.. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

What part of the linkage. Is it the outer tie rod or the Idler arm?

You'll have to pull it apart to get a good look at what will be required. Post some pics of what broke, I know I dread the thought of something going wrong w/ the steering on this car. A long time ago we had a Porsche 944 that had it's steering linkage broken while my mom was driving it, luckily she was able to safely stop it.

I went up and looked since we are slow.. and the pin on the idler arm and snapped.. The bolt had stayed the the same spot with nothing holding it in which I got a good laugh at. And yes I thanking god that it didnt go out while I was on the highway or in a corner!

It's usually the idler arm. Maybe I better give mine some routine inspection and maybe even replace the wear parts.

thanks for the warning.

I just sent Joe off with the parts and info he needs to fix this. It sounds like the cotter pin came out and the nut came off the idler arm. I gave him a couple of new bushings, some grease, an extra washer, nut and a new cotter pin. We'll inspect it carefully when he gets it back here. Hopefully this will fix the problem. I bet it fixes an annoying vibration problem we were chasing also.
