Sprayed a BAse coat.... RED BABY

Here is a test spray of the color I bought... I really was just trying to get use to the new gun I bought.... I think this color will really stand out at the track!

while we're on the subject, here's what i did this weekend:
before:

and after:

and after that came a day of sanding the primer in 90 degree heat followed by another coat of different primer. In a few weeks, the color should come, and pics will be posted!

as you can see, most of the removable pieces (hood, fenders, etc. have been removed and painted sepretly and

masking..

tons of masking

also, hvlp (high velocity, low pressure) guns help. They were created to reduce the amount of overspray produced so the air wouldn't be as polluted. They get more paint where you want it!

Oh and BTW, to reduce overspray just start painting from the top down , also adjust your gun so that the spray is less then a foot across and, the paint is mixed thin enough.

Here is a breakdown....

$70 Gallon of clear- enough to pain about 4 cars
$42 for Red paint and hardener- also overkill- could paint about 4 as well.
Sand paper was another $8

The clear isn't needed as the acrilic enamel will buff to a shine but I am lazy. SO- I am just going to spray the car once with the base coat, sand it, Spray it again probably 3-4 coats, color sand then Clear about 3 to 4 times..

The paint actually came from TSC... $21.00 a gallon Massey Fereson RED
They have lots of colors cheap, just mix in your thinner add hardener and go to town...

You guys are doing good work - glad to see it.

I tend to over-mask and underspray, which comes out looking better than vice versa (which is what most folks do). And that works good when you're using same or similar color. Nothing worse than a sloppy job that overlaps the chrome and black bits.

Don't use that damn green masking tape - harder than hell to get off. Blue seems to work the best.

paint supplys

The quote for materials to paint my car is almost $400.
Where can I get more reasonable price?
Is there an online source or other way to get the cost down?
