Speedometer or other guages

i want to know if an 84 mazdas speedometer is driven by a cable or if a voltage signal is sent to the unit itself. what my main goal to do here is to capture that signal send it to a computer along with rpms, gas gauge, oil pressure, and voltage. i want to make a computer program to messure gas milage and other great things!! but i need to know how i can electronically capture the signals.

thanks if anyone knows anything about this

Chris

There are those things. speedocable->electronic pulse. I don't know where you can get those in the US, but it should be available. Maybe summitracing?
