speedometer

The other day I was cruising at about 120-130kph when all of a sudden, my speedometer started climbing up to 180 and then buried the needle. When I slowed down to 50 to make a turn, the speedometer was fine. When I again accelerated back up to 130- same thing- speedometer climbs and buries. When I stopped and then accelerated back to 130- no problems.
Any ideas?

could be the plast gear in the tranny OR the gears in the speedo. Probably the speedo.

I have the EXACT same problem...but only sometimes. I am cruising at 110 k's (Our speed limit) and suddenly it will climb to 180 - 200+ - it looks cool, but freaky! - as soon as I slow down, it goes back to normal... I need to take a pic at 200K's + . . . and post it as my reached speed !!! (Not bad for a 20 year old car!)

that's only like 120mph isn't it? Mine still does it without a wacky speedo.
