Nope...

A "T-Top" has a center brace, whereas a true Targa has a completely removeable section of roof, all across the width of the car (i.e. no brace)...

However, in this case, it's both. It's a Targa that was modified to have an extra brace...

Since the car seems to be carb'd, my original statement holds true.
It sounds like your dad has an ECU for a fuel injected motor, but the car itself is carbeurated...

As I undstand it, the carb ECU is just for emission purposes...

Cutting off the roof destroys the box structure so the rigidity is compromised. To restore the rigidity you will need to extensively stiffen the chassis similar to making it into a convertible. The advantage of the 'targa' is rather than building a complex soft top you can mould a fixed top which stores in the back of the car. The Honda CRX is good example where the targa top was the same shape as the trunk lid and slotted into a rack underneath it.

[QUOTE=smnc]Gotta love PaulFitzwarryne... haven't seen you around the forum in a while
for all the info!

Its good to be back and jump into my Rex which fired first time. I really miss the seductive song of the turbo intake and BOV. Unfortunately my work takes me into places where electricity is a luxury of the future, and transport is often four hoofed rather than four wheel drive!

Consulting Epidemiologist! If you look up one of my locations, the Peak of God, its in the far NW of China next to the Mongolian border. The province runs down south to the Afghan border, minus 45 in winter.

Targa aftermarket I dont think so I may be wrong I have to look it up. I think the targa was factory..... I just looked it up in the brian long rx-7 bock and I did not find it.... I did read these where the rare.
I remember budy of mine in high school that had a new step dad that was a rotery head. my buddy showed me a catalog for aftermarket convertables that his new dad contimplated. I really think that influenced my desician to buy a convertable rx7. Keep that 1 st gen targa...... what a car.
