I put 5.25 " infinities in the front stock locations. They'll go there fairly easily.

are they the Kappas? Did you just use the mounting kit that comes with the speaker or do you have another way to make the 5.25 fit in the front? I'd rather go with 5.25 than 4.5 if possible in the front without having to make new holes

Yep, they're kappas. I had to put the speakers on the outside of the trim piece, then used the speaker covers that came with them. I did have to drill a couple of new holes, stock ones are too close together. OH, and on the drivers side, you'll have to turn the hood latch VERTICLE to clear the speaker.

all i did was cut a little bit into the screen of the driver's side speaker. just a little groove that the handle can go through.

Do I need to worry about the power of my amp?? I've heard that you should match or overpower the "rms" of a speaker to get undistorted sound. Since the stock amps are 2 X 25 rms do I need to install larger amps to get distortion free tunes (I know next to nothing about car stereos) if I were to put in some 65-100 watt speakers in??

NO.... first do you have a GSL-SE? W/THE EQ? if you do then your oem system can handle up to 200W thats pushing it. 65-100 EASY. and yes match speaker rms to amp rms.

Why do you need speakers? Just rev the engine for auditory enjoyment!
Seriously, since my car is my extra toy- I hardly evenr even put the face on the SOny CD player. I will get somehwere and be stuck in some traffic for a few moments, and look at the dash and think- "Damm, I should have listened to the radio."
The PO put some Blaupunkts in the front, and they sound very good (and I believe they are cheap too). I think the rears are still stock. Hmmm. I need to check. 20 year old car speakers aren't the best for making clear sound at volume (especially the lower frequencies). Did all these FBs come with the same speakers??? I remember a friend had an 84 or 85 seven back in the lat 80s, and his stock system rocked. I guess it could be that our expectations have changed- back then most standard systems would be beat by a $75 CD boom box today.

MWPAYNE, i was about to call your BS until you said you mounted them outside the panel.

Here is what they look like mounted INSIDE the panel (after 5+ hours of hard work to make them fit):

And then i put 6x9's in the rear, in the stock location (OBVIOUSLY had to do some custom fabbing for that...)

And the covers still dont fit. Thats a project i'm gonna do this summer, make custom wheel covers.

BTW, i love my Kappas, make sure you put bass blockers on them though! The RX-7 has no outer wall room to allow for resonance, this can create a distortion if the bss is turned up too high! I reccomend a 10" subwoofer somewhere to give your system a really big push!

Well I don't have the GSL-SE, but I do have a GSL so I do have the equalizer. They put a lot of the good stuff from the GSL-SEs in the GSL, just not the 13B engine. So with the equalizer, I should be able to put in just about anything that fits the stock holes for the amount I want to spend.

Werd.

I had these speakers in my car but when my dad got his first WRX he took them out and put them his Suby. Then, he wrecked it and forgot to take the speakers out and the dealership repaired the car and sold it with the speakers.

sad story man those V-12 are nice. not really my style but nice.

quantam..ok so now that we've determined that you so have the CLARION stock unit w/ the what is it 11 band EQ you can get almost any speaker up to 200w. I feel your on a budget so just change the speakers with what ever ones you like. It shouldnt be that expensive. Im pretty sure that the stock sys. can push ....maybe 200w is pushing it maybe just go with 180w MOST. it should handle that. remember stick to the stock size for easy plug and play. then when get more money and more experience you can up grade...

iotus- i did that same thing with the hood handle thingy turned it side ways. its soooo much better like that i got so excited figuring that out i did it on my other SE and broke it. =( ... i have to replace the whole cable now huh? can i get just the handle dosent look like it. **** it im sure they sell some universal thing if not ill just rig it GHETTO FABOLOUSLY

I had a 200 watt self-amp'd 8" Audiovox bass tube in my old '81 GSL.. had it sitting perpendicular to the car right up against the metal rail above the storage bins. It wasn't bad.. wasn't all that great, but it worked on a budget. I think a good pair of 6x9's would "out-thump" it, though...

I'm gonna have to go with the 5.25 kappas in the front. I like the way that looks in the photo. Does anybody have any experience with power accoustic subs? I was thinking about getting those because I saw them on best buy's website and the numbers look good. They say that the subs can handle 600 watts rms with a 1800 watts peak. Also whats everyone's opinion between ported vs sealed.

This is the sub that I'm looking to purchase

infinity are nice speakers never had them but sold a lot of them..Junia power acustic are crap replaced a lot of them... When it comes to audio it's all about the way it sounds not 800 watts or rms.. can any one tell mewhat rms even means..anyhoos in my professinal opion i will bet unless you are a serious basshead and im borderline one 10" sub in a sealed incloser any properly powered is quite sufficent. THE BOX IS MORE INPORANT THAN THE SUB NO DOUBT!!!!!

I'm all about the bass but I don't know if I wanna throw a huge box into this car. That's why I was thinking about sticking with 1 10". Well, If those are crap I guess I'll go with alpines or kicker subs then because thats what I was looking at about six months ago.

Which way should the subs be facing. Also what would be everyone's recommendation, ported, sealed, bandpass, or isobaric.

1984se so we shouldn't get three way speakers if using an aftermarket deck? Could you tell me why?
