speaker question

well, i traced my buzzing radio to the right rear speaker. i pulled the speaker and the buzzing went away. hooked the speaker up to a house stereo and it doesn't buzz. what could be the problem? perhaps the speaker wiring?

This is something you can try:

Pull out whatever head unit (ie, receiver) you have in your dash. Then find a wiring diagram for your car and cut the right rear speaker off the wiring harness. The location of the cut matters because you don’t want to cut your factory wiring unless you have to (this is assuming that you bought a harness for your car, if you spliced your head directly to the factor wiring ignore this sentence). After you make the cut splice in a temporary piece of speaker cable, connect it to your speaker, and fire up your system. If the speaker doesn't buzz, you have bad wiring going to your rear right speaker. If the speaker buzzes, it's a problem with your head unit.

If you're amping your 4 main speakers, go grab your portable cd player or something and get a 1/8" minijack to stereo rca cable and plug your portable cd player directly into your amp. It won't sound that great, but it will let you know if the problem is in your head or not (assuming you ruled out car wiring).

This is what I mean by a 1/8” minijack to stereo rca cable:

actually, the stereo is stock, using the stock amp behind the stereo itself. i think something may be wrong with the amp itself. its only buzzing in the right rear speaker. the speaker itself is good though.

on a 1980 model with the clarion, the amp is behind the stereo. the rx-7 didn't have cubbies until 1981.
