Speaker Mounting Depth????

I know the size of the speakers for an FB ( 4" in the front.....6.5" in the rear)...but i was wondering how deep (speaker mounting depth) is the actual rear speaker hole??? Anyone know this off the top of thier head?

can't think of a number but theres not alot of extra space there. also, dont expect a speaker will fit just cause you have the right depth and width (I learned the hard way). The stock rear speakers get narrow very quickly, while many modern aftermarket speakers stay wide all the way back. I had to cut out the stock hole about an extra half inch to fit my 6.5" Rockfords, even though they were just a tad wider than the stock speakers...

i tried my JBL 6.5's in the rear and theres no way they will fit without some massive modification

i ended up shoving some 5 1/2's in there for now. think im going to 6x9's in boxes tho. damn car vibrates too much this way.

What do you mean by massive modification? I thought the same thing with my Rockfords but then I took a closer look and some measurements and realised I could just cut out the stock hole a bit. So with no metal working experience I went at it with a power drill, a hammer and a wood chisel. Works beautifully (just had to tell the story cause I'm a bit proud of my work)

the backs of the speakers sit too deep. i guess i could fab up some spacers or something but the sound just wont be right. and it just wasnt worth it to try.

6x9's in boxes will work out far better for me since i've got rattle mania happening now. mostly the gas door cap and tail lights, etc. atleast in boxes bolted down in the rear the speakers wont be using the car for bass relfection and also having them pointed forward at a slight angle should sound much nicer.

best setup i've run in a FB before was some kenwood 7x10 (yes 7x10) they only made these speakers for a few years. i think you can still find them in some places. anyways, i had those in a fairly large speaker box, about the size of a twin 10" box but flatter. it had awesome high and mid tones, the bass was pretty decent too. nothing like running a seperate sub, but the clearest sound ive had in any cars ive owned

too bad some ******* stole my deck, that box and multiple other items out of my car!!@#*#*&@
