sound deadining.....

well, i will first start by saying that i am pleased with the results. last night, i was working on the rear speakers in my LS and i noticed there was a musty smell from the spare tire area. i lifted the rubber mat and everything was soaking wet!!!!!! i pulled the spare out and was trying to devise a way to dry the material when i had a thought to remove it. well, after removing the mat and stripping it of the material on it, i painstakingly dried it and the rear pan, and spare tire with a hair dryer. i had wondered why my car always had condensation on the inside windows and why it would fog after being parked for 10 minutes. now that everthing is dry and there is no clothy material back there, i suspect it will not collect moisture and hold it. i replaced the hatch seal as well last week and i think the two together will help keep my interior dry and fog free. it didn't make much of a difference in sound and road noise. i was kinda sad to do it but figured it was for the best.

with the added water in the material and on the pan, i would say 6 or 7 pounds. without the water, being dry, probably 2 pounds or so. not really much of a weight mod as much as a car saving moisture collecting remover mod. just be lucky you don't have the evil winters as we have in ohio. moisture is the devil up here!!!

I found this on my 2nd gen as well. Have no idea how water got into it but it got under the sound deadening pad material and stunk like hell. Even had small fungus on it, yuck!

i didnt have the fungus, but the smell was pretty fierce. i thought the car smelled musty because the previous owner was a smoker and because of it's age and the fact it was garaged. i cleaned everything to get the smoke smell and tar off and it still was rather rancid musty. i will be back to the car on wednesday of next week. hopefully some or most of the musty smell has gone away.
