So I'm skrewed.
Just got off the phone with the Mazda dealership.
They can't get me the key codes for my cars. They are too old.
Anyone have a better idea, short of changing out the ignition switch and everything? That is the last resort.

Airflow is my life
BS- a good locksmith can make a key if you bring them the lock, or pay to have them come to you. They run a key blank in and out and look at teh patterns. Then they can file them to match. Guy did it for me years ago on my FB.

I'll have to call the guy back. He's old and crotchety, doesn't like to come out in the cold (see the "HOw cold was it this morning" thread in the lounge)
I need keyes ASAP so I can drive this thing up to the muffler shop and start bending the pipe for my roll cage.

Given that most RX-7 keys will open most other RX-7 doors I don't even think it would take a 'good' locksmith to file a key down. Heck file it yourself man... Go get a blank mazda key and try it out. If you have a friend with an RX start with a copy of his key - who knows even the key itself might work.

That usually only works if the tumblers are really worn out.
I tried that back when i still had the keyes to both of them. They only worked in the car they were for, not the other way around.

yeah, i've been trying to figure out how to wire it up with a button start so i won't be required to have a key. Have a kill switch under the dash or somewhere that you have to close to make the button hot. Kind of like moving the key to position one or whatever.
As far as doors go, I don't worry about locking up cars around here, at least the one that sits outside. And there aren't many people around here who actually know what it is.

what? my mazda dealer made me a key for my 7.. i gave him the vin and he went back there and got me a key cut... 85 S.. guess i was lucky then...
and should you need to you could always get a walmart ignition and wire it up.. that's what my car had before i went to the junkyard and got a whole ignition set up.. (ignition, doors, dash and storage bins, and hatch)

Just got off the phone with the other locksmith in town. He is going to do some research overnight and see what he can do for me and call me back tomorrow.
I'm hoping tomorrow night i'll have a couple brand new keyes cut and ready to go so I can at least take the project car out on the ice and have some fun.
light car + RWD + ice = loads of fun.

Just got the phone call back from the locksmith.
Turns out the passenger door lock has the code on it, all i have to do is remove it and take it in to the guy and have him make the keys. $20 a key that way.
Just thought i would let you know so if it happens to anyone else in the future they know how to find the code/get keyes made.

LOL $20 bucks a key. Have him make 1, then take that thing to the local hardware store and copy it for $2. I worked at a dealership, and we only charged $10 bucks a key. And I thought I was killin people on that.
