and this is what it looks like..
when i took the radiator apart it looked like someone **** in it.

Oh man, I just ate too... 
If that engine actually ran I would be surprised. Not only does it look like the engine was overheated, warping the housings and leaking coolant into the rotor housings, but the housings themselves are pretty beat up. From the looks of those pics, there aren't any usable parts in the engine, except mabey the rotors themselves.

well i know when you heat a piece of metal up really hot, it gets those blue discolored marks in it.
and i dont think im going to us eanything (short of front cover and flywheel) from that engine.

Heh,heh...that rotor housings chrome looks EXACTLY like one of my bookends!
It was the original engine my car came with that was frozen up.I broke it loose by pull starting in 2nd and damn near blowing my clutch.Mine actually did run like that,but not well at all and not with all the water damage your has.

i have no idea. i got this for 150 bucks couple weeks ago. im going to guess water seal went, owner didnt know what it was. so they put that raditor sealer in it and it just made things worse. extremely overheated and warped everything. the flywheel nut was VERY easy to get undone.

when i bought the car i was told the motor had probably blown its coolant seal. so i expected it to be bad, but not quite this bad. it sounded like it still had compression when i turned it.
btw the car has almost 145k miles on it, im assuming the motor has that too.

fwiw, the coloring on the shaft lobe is normal, and is from the manufacturing process, though I dont know the specifics. It is visible on the cross section of the lobe (as seen in that pic) as well as in the center section of the shaft adjacent to each rotor lobe. I think it has to do with the hardening process.
That's just a standard coolant seal motor that was left to sit around. All pre 86 housings chrome flake really badly like that under normal use...it starts in as little as 50k miles and by 150k it is usually about that level of wear. This is why I (and some other builders) dont really do much 12a work, because reuseable parts are hard to come by, and the expense for new stuff doesnt justify the return versus going with newer 13b setups.

its cool, ive got a couple 12a motors lined up for pretty cheap. even with a blown motor it was still a good deal.
