So this guy wants to trade me...

My 84 GSL-SE for an 87 SE (??)-not good with FC's. Anyways, his is about as clean as mine and only 68k on it.
http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/car/309169900.html -That's the car
Should I consider it? My GSL-SE has 108k and a few paint touch ups and one dent.
I don't know jack about FC's, can anyone tell me if it's like my GSL-SE in terms of handling, performance, reliability, etc, etc?

i think its a good trade. the SE you have is excellent looking and the FC (SE model) you are looking at looks sharp. you'd just have to decide what you like more, the second gen or your first gen. any luck on the pics of the "S" or the color code?

it says that he is selling the car on craigslist because he never got into the car.....kind of wondering why he would want to trade an rx-7 for an even older rx-7.....maybe he just really likes 1st gens

Don't do it. You'll miss your 84. All RX-7's have been good all around performance cars so theres no reason to expect any less from his car.

Mazdaverx7-H4...I believe that was the paint code & with school I haven't been able to get over to the car.

Also, trying to drive my car without the sunroof open is a PITA. The FC any bigger? Also autocross is near impossible. I thought it was funny he emailed me. I saw the car but thought it cost too much. I'm not sure still if I should do it or not-I'm hella defensive about my GSL-SE, and something that is in almost as good of a shape I would probably never ever drive it anywhere

GSL-SEs are pretty rare. They are also considerably faster stock. I wouldn't do it.

I was leaning towards that. Those FC's, are they all LSD rear ends? As stated, I don't know jack about them.

they are all LSD, yes. the GSL-SE's are rarer and IMO, more desireable and hold a better resale value. i personally would keep th e SE unless you are liking the looks of the FC. if you are close it wouldnt hurt to take teh car for a drive and see if you even like the car.

The SE is the one with 4-lug Phone Dial wheels, right? Mine had no LSD, and neither did my '91 coupe..

Keep the GSL-SE. They're more desirable.

This is slightly threadjacking but... PercentSevenC, why do you have a WEP key as your signature? shouldn't you *not* be showing a WEP key off to the whole world?

And to the original poster - I prefer FBs, some prefer FCs. There has to be some reason behind his willingness to trade, and unless you know for sure what that is, I personally would be very cautious.

the GXL, GTUs and turbo models did. The SE if a base model FC with the small brakes, usually few options, etc. Basically your trading the top of the line FB for the bottom of the line FC. i wouldnt do it.

you're correct, i was mistaken. it does not have the lsd, but does have 4 wheel disc brakes.

all FCs have four wheel disc (which is nice!) but the SE had non vented rears (i think) and single piston fronts.

I thought not. I was curious as to know the performance aspects of the car as this would be my autocross car too. I hear the term for FC is 'bloated pig'?

Also that isn't a WEP key...http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=119871
yay we gots the HD-DVD code!!

alot of the autocrossers i know prefer the FB chassis over the FC. At least that is the trend. Could be a matter of cheapness.

being a 1st gen guy, I would stick with the GSL-SE. I think the 2nd gens (while his looks clean) are just too mondane, a collaberation of styles from the porsche 944 to the supra and not able to stand alone as the 1st gen does.

oh and another thing, the GSL-SE was the top of the line, the SE was the base.

It's not a WEP key, though it could be used as one. Try doing a Google search on the number.
