I figure I'll clean the contacts on everything while I'm down there. I didn't have enough daylight today to do it... I might get up early tomorrow morning and handle it before work.

Wait a tick. Does the car crank and NOT start? If so, you got other problems in addition to the starter.

Could be suffering from some flooding due to the starter issues. I think that sometimes it cranks, and sometimes it won't according to what he posted. Need to fix the non-cranking issue before getting too worried about anything else though.

It didn't crank long enough for it to try to start. The guy I bought it from said that when it actually would crank, it ran fine... I bought a brand new starter, so hopefully that will fix it. Like I said, it's been sitting for a year or so, so I have to change all the fluids, etc...

By the way, if the gas in it is bad, how can I drain it and dispose of it? It's got about 3/4 tank of gas, according to the gauge.

On another note, if my ignition switch is what's bad, and I buy a new ignition switch on ebay, can I change out the key that's in it for my key?

It's an 84 right? It should have a drain plug in the tank. Look under the tank, on the drivers side, towards the front of the tank. That's where the drain is on my 83.
As for the ignition switch, the switch is seperate from the key and tumbler. A good locksmith can change the locks internals to fit any key, as long as they have all the pins needed.

Unhook the gas line from the carb and put it into a jug. Jump the fuel pump Relay and turn on the switch. should drain the tank just fine. 84 and 85 also had a drain plug in the bottom of the tank that you could use.

I drove her for the first time... I didn't take it over 30, mostly because I don't trust the tires, brakes, or shocks.

Don't it feel great to revive a "dead" car?
Glad to hear you got it started.

For future reference, the switch and key cylinder are seperate. You can keep your old key and just replace the switch.

I carry known good switches for various cars around so that I can plug them into the harness and start them without the key. (For either testing the old switch or testing the engine on a parts car that has no key.)
