nice! as asked before, what's going to be the price on these?

That is an option. The 84-85 struts would be a special hub for only those years. We would need a good bit of demand to make them. These hubs will work for the rx2 and rx3 guys as well (With a slight diameter change). So we went with the hub that has the largest possibilities.

Put me down as another interested party in the 84-85 struts. I actually thought that is what you were making also. I'm sure the demand would be high. I thought there were more of those running around out there.

I have a gsl-se and was thinking that you were making the kit to fit (I guess because of the 4 x 4.5 bolt pattern). It is soo cool that your kit doesn't change the offset!

Anyways, if you make it, I will buy one. I like my bigger wheel bearings and don't want to have to change out the struts. Thanks!

This kit is just what I need to finish up my turbo project!

Come on guys, speak up! (I'm sure in a few days we will have enough people to justify doing it).

Cool item. If the price is right, I'm in for the 83 and older setup. I have 15" wheels, 4x110 only, and 2 sets of 4 piston calipers from second gens.
I'm guessing 15" wheels would likely be needed, since they are a snug fit over the stock 4 piston brake setup.

Just outta curiousity, when getting new rotors, what do you order them for?

We would hope you would come back to us since it is hard to beat our service.
Those that purchase the kit will have all the info needed to purchase new rotors.

As stated in the first thread, I am waiting on some numbers to come in from a supplier. Then we can publish the price.

Should be soon.

I too am interested in retaining my 4x114.3 lug pattern if I could so I could keep my Panasports. I already have the calipers BUT was contemplating on installing them with your kit since my lug pattern would have to change, this means I would need to purchase the rear kit as well as new wheels which now changes the cost.
Billy, would you be able to get the proper size rotors with the SE lug pattern from your supplier?
This could be another option for those of us that would like to upgrade the calipers but not change our lug pattern.
Thanks

Non-existing item. There is three ways to keep your 4x4.5 pattern. First is to have the turbo rotors re-drilled with the 4 lug pattern. Second is to have disk brake hats made to use an after market race type rotor. Third is the new kit.

Maybe we will launch this product with a group buy. This way we can maybe get enough interest in the 84-85 hub.

I will work up the current numbers and establish a GB. If we can get 5 confirmed guys, I may be able to do the 84-85 special hubs.

Add me to the 84-85 12A

Rogue_Wulff 08-03-07 06:16 PM

The biggest issue with doing 84-85 hubs, is there would need to be 2 styles. One for the 12A cars, and another for the SE, as the bolt pattern and offset both differ between these 2 models.
With the dual bolt pattern hubs, a simple spacer and longer studs could be utilized to aid in the simplicity of the 84-85 kit.

Billy, have you been able to determine the minimum wheel diameter needed to clear the currently developed kit? As the rotors and calipers are larger than stock, I suspect the stock 13" wheel may not clear the rotor or caliper. If this is the case, it would need to be taken into account by the purchaser prior to ordering. Fortunately, there are 15" wheels available for the 4x110 pattern. Hopefully, they will continue to be available for a while.

RotaryRevn 08-03-07 09:38 PM

Billy, I'm 100% for the 84-85 GSL-SE. I guess there are two different offset's, 12a and 13b. Hopefully we get enough people for both!

Come on people, everyone needs this kit! Just think about when you finally decide to do that turbo swap you have been thinking about ;)

Re-Speed.com 08-04-07 09:06 AM

We have some numbers and I will try to answer all the questions that have popped up.

Yes, 15" minimum wheels. You will not fit much of a break upgrade under the stock 13" wheels.

I need to dig out some SE hubs to figure a few things out before I can 100% say how we would accomplish the 85-85 hub. It is already known the hub will change as far as the outer bearing diameter. Looks like I can fit that within the current hub design. The variable is the wheel mounting location. This is different from the 12a cars to the 13b cars. Not sure on the hub centric diameter of the hub, need to find out if all 84-84 were the same in this respect. If so, we will likely do the 84-85 hubs based on 12a and offer a small spacer for the 13b guys.

If we did a GB on these the prices would be:

1) Complete Front Kit = $399.00 (based on a minimum of 5 kits each)
2) Optional Front Stainless Line Kit = $65.50
3) Optional 4 piston calipers = (Still waiting on a supplier to return a quote)

The complete kit listed is hubs, bearings, rotors, caliper bracket and all mounting hardware. The only thing you will need to supply would be the calipers, pads and brake lines.

The Stainless line kit is specifically designed for this kit. Fits 81+ cars.

Rebuilt calipers can be had locally for around $100 each (with core charge) at your favorite automotive supplier. We are hoping to be able to offer these, optionally, for around $100 for the pair.

I will be able to tell you by the end of the weekend if the 84-85 parts can be done.
Lets get a show of hands for 79-83 and 84-85 at the GB price structure and see if it is worth persuing.

I think something is being missed here. corect me if I am wrong but billy already has a kit that retains the 4x 4.5(4x114.3) your would just use the 4 bolt 2nd gen hub on the kit he already has for sale.

billy would this 4x110 fit behind my epsilons?

rotarycrazy 08-04-07 12:01 PM

could you do it in 4x114.3 bolt patern if so I would be all over that becouse I want to use vert wheels on the car and I will be putting an SE axle in the back.

4x114.3 is 4.5". So you are good.

The Mark I Kit (Old), is for 84-85 spindles only. You can use them with 4x4.5" lug hubs as long as you drill the rotors. If you use 4 lug rotors you have nothing more that expensive GSL-SE brakes.

The Mark II Kit (New), is for 110MM and 114.3MM (4.5") to 79-83 spindles. We developed it to fill the void for the 79-83 guys. Noe it looks like there are a number of 84-85 12A guys that need them as well. We are going to try and accommodate them.

You should be fine with your wheels since they are 15". I am going to work up a drawing that shows the caliper clearance needed with the kits so everyone can make sure, but we have never had a problem with 15" or up.

Very nice Billy but I have to wait. I have to re-do the interior on both RX-3's and Im waiting for the junkyard sale (50%) next holiday so I can pick up a stock FB strut housing/spindle and modify it to match the RX-3's orig strut.

As usual, keep up the good work and thanks for supporting the Old School and SA/FB guys. :icon_tup:

Keep up the awesome work... A+A+

MAN,,,These need to hurry up! Who else is drooling.

82transam 08-05-07 09:32 AM

Good looking stuff Billy, seems like a good price too. Personally I'd still rather spend a little extra and just do the full 5 lug FC swap on all four corners, but great looking work as always.
Morey987: I'm drooling, but for the rack and pinion kit ;) :D

Re-Speed.com 08-05-07 04:43 PM

I did some work today and have finalized the kit.

We are able to use the current hub design with a few slight changes for the 84-85 spindles. However the GSL-SE requirement can not be met with this hub. Due to the fact that the wheel surface change of 15MM and the larger outer bearing, it has not worked out. I will continue to think about a GSL-SE solution.

The group buy has been setup -> https://www.rx7club.com/group-buy-center-69/1979-1985-12a-rx7-markii-big-brake-kit-677216/

Good stuff Billy. I wish I had the funds to get in on the group buy, but alas, I'll likely hafta wait a couple months.

This is the exact kit I have been waiting for. Was about to attempt my own version, but no need.

82BUCKET 08-05-07 06:30 PM

Very nice! Once I get my Boyds repaired...getting this kit.

K-Tune 08-05-07 08:28 PM

so in order to use the 4.5 pattern on my 84 SE with 4 piston T2 calipers i'd have to change my front spindles out for non-SE '83 ones?
