Smog Question regarding shutter valve.

Im in the process of rebuilding my nikki carb. I removed the shuttervalve, flapper and rod that goes through the lower intake manifold. Becuase my shutter valve was broken.

My question is from the guy's who really KNOW is can i pass smog without the shutter valve? Considering everything else is working just as the factory intended it too.

Becuase i was thinking and correct me if im wrong but doesnt the shutter valve close on decceleration to lean out the engine for emissions? So technically it would not make much of a difference becuase here in California your car is running at a steady speed while they check for tailpipe emissions.

And then it comes all back too i can really buy a new shuttervalve from mazdatrix for less than a $100, what do you guys know about this?

Thanks for reading i am eager to see what some of you have to say.

i do not think that you will pass for the reason that it shuts off the fuel on decell

Yeah and the funny thing is the only time it will decel during the test is for the 1/4 second they shift from 1st to 2nd ...After that the engine does not rev down until the test is complete.

It doesnt shut off the fuel at decel,it simply shunts the rear barrel's fuel to the front rotor and the gulp valve allows only plain air to enter the rear rotor.

Regardless, both rotors exhaust waste feed into the same exhaust system and catylist.Even if the mixture does spike rich for a moment, the only time a two speed dyno smog test sees any off-throttle decel is during the second or two when/if they up-shift for the 25mph portion of the test. And even then, the final smog numbers are an average of the entire test cycle time, not just the maximum/minimum emissions produced.
There will be no issues with passing smog,so long as there arent any foolishly deleted or bypassed hoses/connections left in plain site.Chances are, most tech(especially test-only guys) will have never even heard of a rotary shutter valve. They are just looking for obvious disconnected items and basic smog device function....airpump,EGR,cats,timing,gas cap, evap system, ect.

Cap it with a sturdy rubber plug and make it look clean.
99.9% sure you wont have any problems provided the rest of the rats nest and other smog control devices are intact and functioning.

I smog my Rx7 every two months and the guy at the smog station has never said anything about my carb or lack of emissions equipment.

I've been failing my car there for months, and the only thing he has said was, "How do you expect to pass with knowing on my car."

^And if all of your emission's stuff is there you should still pass

You do not need the shutter valve to pass the sniffer part of the inspection. Can't comment on the visual test you CA guys have, but in NJ my car goes right through and its been gone for 3 inspections now.
