A bit wont hurt, maybe a gallon in a full tank.....it helps clear out any moisture in the fuel system too.
Too much can hurt rubber components and it hurts power since there is less BTU's in alcohol than gasoline.Dont expect alcohol to get you by if your cat is gone or the air injection isnt working. It can help you get under the max when your close to the limit and need a push, but rotaries pollute a LOT.....they need a good cat and fresh oxygen to burn off all the wasted fuel.

As Steve stated. You can add all you want but if the emission equipment is not in good working order, you will not pass.

Also do a search on Acetone. Member aws140 posted a link for the usage and there was some good info in there about lowering the Hc's.

If the shutter valve diaphram is bad you will have the typical huge vacuum leak. This will cause problems with the sniffer test. You need to get her fixed before you go in for testing.

It just randomly decides to get stuck open? a quick tap of the gas usually bring's the idle back down.

As soon as it's not a 108 here i will try to see what i can do. The other thread about the shutter valve here has a very good trouble shooting/fixing writeup!

Put a plug the opening in the air cleaner that goes to the shutter valve.

Car will backfire when decelerating with the shutter valve plugged.

plugging will only help you get the car started and to idle. but the shutter valve and coasting valve will still be malfunctioning. please see links:

https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/shutter-valve-683769/ and
https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/car-wont-hold-idle-without-choke-676232/

don't worry they are mostly repetitive

hope this helps
