Question skrewy tachometer

I am having a problem with my tach in my 85 gsl. Every once in a while i will hear this "ticking" sound and my tach will just quit on me, but after a while it will click back on and work. I have no idea what this could be. If anyone has any info on this problem of mine it would be well apreciated.

Not sure about the ticking sound, but the tach is driven by signals from the trailing ignitor, so if the tach quits, that ignitor may be bad.

Where is the ticking sound coming from exactly? ie. under the hood or behind the dash?

the ticking could be an intermittent signal... check the connections on your trailing coil. The wire could be loose or it could be corroded. I don't think it's the ignitor, cause if they go, then they just quit working... they don't work intermittently.

well the sound is coming from behind the gauge dash. It is doing it more often now too. I have heard of the trailing coil being the prob but how should i check it.
