WA Side window trim removal

Headed to a JY tomorrow, and I've tried to pull that piece of trim off before, and I broke it. So how do I get that piece off?

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Which piece? You mean the triangle trim on the rear sides, or something to do with the door windows?

The only way to get the triangle piece off is to break the tabs in the back of it. Re-install with black RTV using masking tape to hold in place till it sets.

I've actually managed to jimmy two off without breaking them... out of about a dozen tries over the years.

If the double-sided tape in the center has rotted away from time, and if it's a serious hot day, once in a blue moon the tabs will slither backwards out of the spring clips under application of very, VERY slow lifting pressure. You leave a little bit of plastic scrapings behind.

But it's nothing I'd put money on doing.

Awesome, I got one today, the double sided tape was super rotted away, and it just came apart.

I've also broken these in the past and therefore, haven't tried removal in years.

Maybe to document this in a little more detail for us visual folks, someone could post pics of the b-side of an intact triangle and the mating bracket that the triangle snaps into, please?

Thanks!

OK, here are pix of my two intact salvaged SA triangles:

The best close-up I could get of the retaining pins, with their metal spring clips. What usually happens is that the spring clips rust, swell, and bond to the metal window retainer, and so won't pop out like they are supposed to. These ones I was able to ease the plastic pins out of the retainers, and then pry the retainers out of the plate after the plastic bit was removed.

And here's a comparison of different shapes between SA (top) and FB (bottom) triangles. The FB is shorter, and the leading edge is reversed in angle. Attachment underneath is different as well.

for visual intel!
