Side Draft or Down Draft

i am constructing an intake system for my 82 gsl involving ither 2 36 dellortos or 2 40 dellortos

my big question is do side drafts have to be place on there side or can they be placed in an up and down position

or, can a down draft carb be placed on its side vs straight up and down

this question is important as it will govern wich set of carburators i put on (one being side and one being down)

thanks

the carbs will have to be used in which way they are designated. the float bowls and needle/seats are designed to be in either a side or down darft carb. they will not work in any other application than intended for
