How do you actually test the shutter valve? I know what it does but not how it does it. I assume that the smaller vacuum line moves it, but all thre that I have, it doesnt work that way. So I either have three that are bad, or I am not testing it correctly.

If any one know how to test it I would appreciate it.

 

The larger hose that goes to the air canister. pull the top off of the Stock air cleaner. find the hole where the larger hose goes too, put a finger over the hole. if no suction = bad valve

 

You will know right away if your car sounds like you have a goose stuck in the carb upon decelleration. The valve will make a honking noise, just sit in your car with the window open and rev the engine.

 

Thanks, I get suction on my replacement off my other car so it's ok. My original one though, was worn so the shaft was the size of a paper clip. Couldn't begin to tell you how that happened.

when it's idling, then the shutter valve is bad.

There should ONLY be suction when decelerating from like 4000 RPM to 1000 RPM... Or something like that...

It also sounds like a rabid goose in a shopvac during a tornado.

 

You might as well just defeat it and not worry about it. I plugged mine up last winter and just went through inspection, the emissions were damn good, Nox and CO were well below the limit, HC's were 20 over because my air filter is dirty as hell, but it'll pass. Basically that damn valve does nothing.

 

It cuts fuel to the rear rotor on deceneration to prevent backfiring... So yeah... essentially does nothing...
