Shudders from 1st to 2nd

I don't know if this is just a clutch problem, or something in the way I drive... but heres the thing:

When I'm accelerating, and I shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear, the car sort of shudders and makes ugly noises. 2nd to 3rd and up is clean, it shifts beatifully.

I had my dad drive it, and he had the same problem. Does my clutch have some kind of quirk or do I have a genetric-driving-disorder?

At what RPM shift-point does that happen? During normal acceleration like at 4k or higher like 7k. Also, can you describe the "ugly sound" a little better and where does it come from? Does it sound like a duck? If you were to take a guess as to where the shuttering comes from would you say the front, middle or rear of the car? Does you car have a 12a or 13b?

Check the front engine mounts and the transmission mount underneath the car. Something could be loose or damaged.

On the two 1st gens I have owned, the 1-2 shift has always been harsher than any of the others. Is there a structural weakness in the tranny that affects 1-2 shifting?
