Should I put tranny fluid in the fuel? (84 GSL-SE)
I had to get my tank cleaned and the guy that did just so happened to be a former mazda rotary technician back in the day (lucky find huh?) After shooting the **** for awhile talking about the car he told me that I should put about 1/2 cup of cheap transmission fluid in with about 20 gallons of fuel every few fillups to keep everything lubricated real well. Anyone ever heard of this? The guy knew his stuff and from his age had worked on these cars full time back in the 80s. However, I dont want to just jump in and try something like this without some feedback on whether this is a good idea or not to do to my 13b GSL-SE.

I've heard to add things like a cap of rubbing alcohol for every few gallons of gas to help your car pass emissions, never heard anything about adding transmission fluid to the gas though. Can't see how it would really do anything except burn up before it really had the chance to actually 'lubricate' anything.

An experienced rotary guy should know that you'll have a very tough time putting 20 gallons of gas in your car.
If you have some reason to be concerned about lubrication, you can add a bit of 2-cycle oil to the gas. However, rotaries have a system that automaticly inject oil into the housings to take care of this.
If you want to clean the internals to prevent carbon buildup, then grab a can of Seafoam and add that to the gas every month or two.
We get a lot of misguided individuals who try to be helpful but they sometimes end up hurting instead.

I've heard of using ATF to free up an engine that's been carbon-locked... but that's only recommended as a last resort after all other techniques have been exhausted. You wouldn't put it in the gas as that implies that the engine already runs, and for a running engine, Seafoam is what you want to use for cleaning the internals.
For normal premix, always use 2-cycle oil.
