should i change my 82 GS automatic to a 5 speed?

i have a real nice 82 with 122,000 miles on it, but its an automatic....i do a lot of open road driving and it just tacks way up there at 70mph (over 4 thousand rpm) i think thats just to much...i allready have a 85 5speed GS and its fine....i have all the parts to change it over....so should this be a good weekend project or what???? at least it wont cost me anything to do it...nothing but time!!! :-)

I've read that the crossmember bolts on the floorpan are in different places.

Other than that, go for it.

Do the swap...you have to use the crossmember from a stick car...they look the same but there is a 1 3/4" difference in the bolt spacing....

SWAP THAT ******! I just did it and it felt GREAT!!!!!
Mike is right, I went to go race a CORSICA on the highway with the 7 when i had auto, and this is how it went:

Slammed the pedal to the floor....auto wouldnt downshift...stuck in 3rd gear. Brought it up to around 7000rpm it stayed there!!! I was neck to neck with the P.O.S and i was doing 170kp/h and i was stuck there!!! I couldnt press the o/d button cause i had no idea that was my 4th gear (lol), so i watched as the corsica flew passed me!!!

SO now i have 5 speed. I pity those fools!!!!

I would keep it auto. As gay as the autos are there aren't many, so it might be worth something. Just my 2 cents though.
