Shift Points

what shift points should i be using when racing?I usually shift at about 6700 and my car is a stock 85 GS.I have been told its safe to shift at 7500 but im not sure i want to take my car that high unless i know its ok

get it dynoed and shift at peak power or a couple hundred past

well, my peak power was at 7800 rpms with alot less mods and no turbo; but in first gear i shifted at 6,000 and then 2nd gear on i shifted at about 6800.

If you have a dyno chart, go to this site and plug in the numbers: http://www.bgsoflex.com/shifter.html

This will tell you the correct shift point. I can tell you that the number will be 8000+.

If you have a freshly rebuilt engine that you don't mind rebuilding, you can shift at 8000 RPM without engine damage. This comes from years of experience by a very large number of Spec-RX7 racers around the country. I've done it myself for 2+ years on my current motor. Don't do this on the street, its not worth the extra wear on the engine. See my response here for my explanation of why you need to rev so high to get the maximum acceleration. If you don't believe me just google on "shift point" for lots of useful information.
