sheet metal rust repair
Are the sheet metal rear quarter panels available aftermarket anywhere? I have the typical rust above and in front of the rear wheel and wanted to start doing bodywork, a learning experience. I need doors and rocker panels to but I can find good doors in the junkyard.

I don't think I've ever seen any rear qtr panels available, ever, in all my years as an enthusiast. The entire rear end and roof is one piece; probably the way the factory sheet-metal stamping tooling was designed. Maybe just look for a newer "shell".
I wonder if the original sheet-metal production tooling is still intact, somewhere in Japan, for the first gen models. Wouldn't it be great if they could reissue the body style; meeting the necessary safety requirements, and market them.
I have seen FD qtr panels in Victoria British, though.

There are NO replacements for the quarters, and they're not very removable anyway. As Chas said, it's easier to find a new shell, and maybe even just get it in a straight up trade.
I have a similar problem. My entire front end is converted to 'Tender' blue, but my rear end (including roof) is tan primer. Not to mention the BONDO that I just found under my driver's triangle window *CRY*

Your only recourse is to either cut out the affected areas or use a rust-killing paint and fill the holes left by the rust removal process. I elected to the latter on my rear quarters. We'll see how long they last. Worst case scenario is that in a years time, I have a slightly bigger mess to clean up before I weld new metal in.
