seriously annoying radio problem

seriously annoying radio problem

i got an 85 gsl se and theres something wrong wit my radio... it cuts on and off like theres a short... its not power caus bothe the altinator and battery work and it not the wireing of the radio cause its been checked by professionals 3 times... the only thing ive come accross is that when the antenna is bumped.... the radio cuts off... but that doesent make sense to me cause what does the antenna have to do with the radio... plz help

Could be the radio is using the antenna as the grounding. See it several times when people pulled out the radio and forgot to re-attach the grounding wire at the back of the radio..

im in south LA... john that sounds really right... its already an aftermarket radio and that makes alotta sense.. what steps should i take n checking

I had a the same thing happen on my 85 GSL-SE it turned out to be the ignition switch. I sprayed some cleaner on it and used a zip tie to snug the contacts
up. It also helped a starter problem I was having. Here
are the threads I read they did have some pics of
where to put the zip tie but the link to them is not working. Warning dissconnect battery before spraying
cleaner in! This thread has to do with starter problems
but one guy does mention the same problem with the stereo. Thats what got me thinking the switch was affecting both and it was In my case
