serching leads to more questions...

Decited to relpace compleat cooling system(new rad., top and lower hoses, thermostat, water pump). I'm doing it all to get it all out of the way(temp stays at 3/4).
And here is the questions....

1. How important is it to replace the hosing to block gasket at this time? Water pump only came w/gasket in between pump and housing.

2. Nethere rad. hose has a spring in it what can be done? Do i need this spring? Can safley take out the old spring and reuse it?

3.Where do i find info about Heater hoses??Where there located? How important/benificial is it to replace them at this time?

4.Do i use any kind of gaskte dressing on any of the gaskets im replacing?

5.Do i need a torq wrench for this job?

I think thats about it. Like i said all ready did a searchand these are my questions from that.

Thank again for the time and patience.

Do the job right the first time and you won't have to worry about it. When you loosen the bolts to the pump you disturb the other gasket. Better safe than sorry. My water pump only came with the gasket between the pump and housing as well. I just cut the other gasket out of gasket material and it works great.

Mine don't have the springs in them at all and they don't collapse. Sure, reuse the ones you have.

At 18 years old, I'd replace them if I were you. I did on mine. The hoses that go to and from the water/oil cooler are particularly susceptible to failing. Check out Mazdatrix:

I do and I haven't had a leak yet. YMMV

Need? No... but it's a good idea.

Good luck with your project!

No, just the one that goes from the block under the oil cooler to the firewall. If it still looks good then keep it but usually that hose goes bad from oil leaking on it. The rest are gonna be tossed when you do the swap.

I had rubberized cork material on hand so that's what I used. I laid it on the pump and cut it out with a razor blade. Paper may be easier to cut out. Ask your local auto parts store what material might be best.
