Seal Question

well i beleive that my front seal is going bad. I seem to have oil leaking behind the AC compressor. so a few questions.

what is my likely hood of not making a 600 mile round trip?
is it ok to just replace one seal?
do i have to pull the motor to replace the seal?
or should i just do a rebuild?

my problem is that it is my daily driver and i don't have much choice in the matter. I want to keep the car running and would do about anything to do so. If anyone can help me out or make suggestions that would be great. Thx

Pip

Pip: its easy to change the front seal, you don't even have to pull the motor, just remove all of the accesories on the front of the block, remove the dizzy, OMp and any items bolted to the front cover.

drain the oil.

remove all of the bolts holding the front cover to the block, as well as the bolts holding the fornt cover to the oil pan, use a razor blade to cut the sealer between the front cover and the oil pan, remove front cover.

replace seals, and reverse the process.

be careful when cutting the sealent between the fornt cover and the oil pan, you do not want to disturb the sealant between the front plate and the oil pan, so stopping a millimeter or so from it and "ripping" the last part works well. just make sure to clean the oil pan of any residue sealer.

flush the oil pan with some solevt while the drain plug is out (to get rid of crap that might have fell in while cleaning).

put a good bead of sealant on the oilpan and front cover mating surfaces and slap it back together.

(also use the FSM for specs, dizzy setting etc.)

distributor. you shouldnt need a gasket for it.

if you dont have one already you need to get a manual for your rx7. the only tricky thing you need to be carefull about is the torrington bearing on the front. its on the eccentric shaft under the front cover.

look in the regional section im sure you can find someone to come help you if you provide some beer or food.
