SE Running rich

Just as the title says, my SE seem to be running significantly richer now that it has turned cooler.. Lots more backfire gurgle in the exhaust, and a very fuelly smell on startup... Suggestions on how to remedy, or just go by a straight pipe and shoot more flames

I don't know how close to stock your engine is but give these people a call. 817.732.5081 Mazda repair shop. The guy has over 20 years experience dealing with rotaries but doesn't like working on other people's modifications so the more stock the better.

hmm... mods? nope. I removed the PS belt, and put a bonez Cat on it... Going to work on suspension first.

Anyone here have hints for me? I'd rather tinker in my garage than just take it to a shop.

Not a clue can't even get mine to pass inspection on a hot day. But on the plus side the Hydrocarbons make me dizzy.

They seem to run a bit richer when they are cold.

MAR - have you used the guys you mentioned? Didn't know we had anyone in the (817) that could work on Rotaries. Tell me more!

I can't remember the specific name of the shop but I got the TN and address from the hotdawgs over at Alamo Motorsports. I had rebuilt the carb but couldn't get it to pass emissions at 4000 RPM (the 2nd part of the test...) and ran out of time to continue tinkering with it when my parents wanted thier rex back and my father-in-law announced that my car needed to get out of the driveway! I was in the middle of moving to a new house and had to take it to a local shop because I couldn't get anyone to follow me out to Garland. I took it to 7375 W. Vickery Blvd., FTW, TX, the TN is above, and left it with him. Two days later, he had the idle smoothed out and did the inspection as well. I'll probably go in and rework the timing a bit but I'm concentrating on getting my '68 FBird inspected first so I'll have two running cars and no more time constraints on working on either of them. He's a man of few words and works on mostly stock rotaries. If it's been modified, he WILL NOT want to hear "How little can I spend to get this running right?" He won't clean your clocks, either, but he expects to make a little bit considering his wealth of knowledge. Looks like his small family works there as well. Never hurts to just talk to him. He was a very nice guy. I didn't write or record any of their names, so I don't have those either. sorry...

DRAT, my first question is always, ""How little can I spend to get this running right", no matter which of my rides need serviced ..LOL.

Mar-I greatly appreciate the info and the insight! The ride down there would be quite a bit easier than the cruise to Garland!

Thanks,
