Arrow Screwed up on S4 tranny swap

I was replacing the shift tower today on my s4 t2 tranny because the one that came on it was cracked. I got the pin out, replaced the tower, and went to put the pin back in. I was grinding the end of the pin so i could easily get it started in the hole and the grinder grabbed it out of my hand and threw it into never never land. So, I got out the 1/4-20 tap, checked the hole with a drill bit to make sure it was the proper diameter, and began tapping. Then, the tap snapped off!!!! What are some suggestions? I ground off the nub of the tap so i can at least get the shift tower back off. I was thinking about taking my FB shift rod to the machine shop and having it modified. Would drilling the hole larger and getting the proper press pin be easier? Or even drilling it larger and tapping it out be easier??
