an other question... let's just say I drive without pushing the pedal the 3/4th of the way.... the secondaries won't open right? let's just say I get to like 5000 RPM with only the primaries working.. wouldn't it be bad?

Uh...there's really not that much of a difference. Maybe someone will post a pic; it's kind of hard to get light and a camera back in that general area.

Rex79 - I've got enough power just riding on the primaries up to 4k for normal driving.

Freeway cruising is the same as it always was. since you in 5th gear your only doing like 2.5-3k so the secondaries wouldn't be open anyway. wanna pass someone? just drop into 4th and blast it.

Just did it last night....what a blast !!!! Highway cruising is great because you can bum along a 4K in 5th gear without the secondaries constantly trying to open. I was worried I'd lose my flame shotting ability too, but after a little trip on the highway they were bigger than ever, is going to be easy to get a pic for my avatar now. It's really easy to get used to the opening point for the secondaries, I'll finish up with the AP mod soon.

It's pretty simple to do, took about 10 minutes max, I did have a little problem with the secondaries not returning to the fully closed position at one point. The 2000RPM idle wasn't nice, but it cleared itself up. I'll be trimming the wire and looking for binding in a few minutes.

Question

I am confused...does the stock Nikki carb have secondaries? And would it be able to handle upwards 200 hp? If not, do you think the Holley or Weber carb upgrade is a better choice? I'm just curious, cuz I don't want to run my stock carbbie if it's not going to give me a good hp number. And remember, "Have you hugged a rotary-powered car lately?"

yup the stock Nikki carb has secondaries.... if there was no secondaries you would have almost no power left after 4000RPM

If there were no secondaries on a nikki then this thread wouldn't exist. I wanna do the AP mod next. Anyone wanna do a pic writeup for it?

what happens when you wanna drag? since you can't floor it under 3000RPM or else the car will choke... how do you manage to get a decent time? you don't floor it at start to let the secondaries closed and when you're past 3000RPM you floor it? won't you lose some time?

You'll get used to it and know the timing. Just go out and experiment. Its definatly faster with them mechanical.

Yeah, the switch to mechanical is very easy. The hardest part is threading the wire around the linkage.

When you drag you don't start at 1000 RPM so it's not a problem, a mild clutch dump at 3G's an you can pretty much open the secondaries all the way as soon as you start moving. The car is much faster than before, I'm really surprsed how big of a difference this makes.
