same diff?

Ok, heres the plan.. The car is an 83, it has a disc brake rear end in it. Will I be able to drop this dif into my 79? or are they different.

What other changes did they make to the cars besides the tail lights?

i was wondering a similar question...

i need to know how hard it would be to put a limited slip rear end, with disk brakes into my car. Also, what year cars would i want to look for, for this rear end?

i have a 80 rx-7

Thumbs up

Yes you can put a limited slip diff. in your 7, I will be doing this later this winter. Everything will bolt up just like the drum brake diff except change the following.
-You will need a disc brake master cylinder
-The e- brake cables
-The disc brake, brake hoses
All disc brake rear ends will work except the 84-85 gsl-se ones.
There bolt pattern is not the 4x110, its 4x41/2, You can change the front hubs over to the gsl-se ones and have no problem. If you do that you can find aftermarket wheels in the 4x41/2 alot easier than the 4x110!
p.s. dont forget to put in a limited slip additive with the gear oil!

If you swap in the '83-up rearend you'll also need an '83-up driveshaft or swap the pinion flange from your current rear onto the new one. No biggie.

Mazatrix and others sell an adapter brake hose that allows you to mate a '81-85 rearend to a '79-80 chassis. Mazda changed the brake line thread pitch in '81 so you can't just thread the OE stuff together. Alternatively you can use the correct hose for the rearend and put the correct fitting on the body's hardline, if you feel like cutting anf flaring and all that crap, and have the special tools to do it.

Again, no biggie. The hose just makes it easier, and easier to put the original setup back in.

BTW - What's wrong with having different bolt patterns front and rear? Many people have different wheel sizes front and rear so you can't rotate the tires anyway.

Thanks alot! this car was a former rally car, so it has a bunch of goodies on it. I'm just waiting for the guy to call me back to see if I get it.
