the rumors i've heard of the new rotary car are better, actually. its half a GTR in weight, so like 2800lbs. possible partially carbon fiber. engine is direct injected, 3 spark plug rotary. 300-350hp.
THAT sounds cool. makes the FRS look pretty tepid

If what you say is true it will not be an affordable sports car..
I agree completely 84stock. The frs and brz are the embodiment of the awesome light cheap fun sports car. Anything super high powered is just gonna be another pricey dream car that will sell in low numbers.

For the next rotary engined sports car from Mazda to be a true success and live up to Mazda's "grassroots racing" heritage, it should be priced probably no more than $30000, make about 300hp, and be a true 2 seater hard top. At most, it should not be more than a 2+2 IMO. Maybe a slightly larger, more aggressively styled hard top version of the Miata would be a good platform for such a car.
Mazda doesn't need a supercar and shouldn't re-release the rotary engine is such a car. People aren't drawn to Mazda for their super powerful engines or large size, but their finely tuned chassis and excellent engines. There is a reason Miata's and Mazda3's are so popular among autocross and amateur racers, even the old school Mazda's seem to get more attention than a lot of the other brands.

All I gotta say is; looking at the FR-S specs page.... Mazda better get off there *** or Toyota will have a new customer!!!
