sa rats nest question

after reading this thread - which i cant post in......

https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-archive-71/fuel-intake-rats-nest-removal-79-rx-7-pictoral-457961/

i was wondering if i could just use the fuel tank vent line and connect it directly to the carb vent, without teeing it off to the airbox. reason i ask is because i have a racing beat power pulse thingamagig which i dont think has a hook up for the airbox vacuum line. i also dont have an aftermarket exhaust yet, should i wait to get a new exhaust system before removing the rats nest?

any help greatly appreciated

You most likely should wait untill you get an exhaust, the air pump supplies air to keep the cats cool so the don't overheat. I have seen a friend of mines FC catch on fire, because the cats overheated and caught the mount in fire.

Do you still have a charcoal canister? If so, connect both to the canister. If not, get a small breather filter and connect both to that.

well the person who i bought the car from has the stock carb on there, but he replaced the lid in a ghetto fashion, and the cap only covers out to the edge of the air filter.......i'll try and get a pic of this crap cap, so there is no nipple to hook up a vac line to.......

The thermal reactor/exhaust manifold needs a fresh air supply, otherwise it could burn out/collapse just like a cat would. The difference is that it's bolted directly to the engine and can cook things inside pretty darn quick.

If you want to pass metro emissions, you will need to remain stock and have everything working as it came from the factory. If part of the SA exhaust fails, it will need to fabbed or upgraded entirely to an FB system. The SA exhaust system is NLA.

You will probably fail visual with the RB air cleaner. You should have no trouble finding an air cleaner box, but it must be an SA as the the charcoal canister is built into the lid and not a remote mount.
