s5 clutch cylinder

hello, I have a 1991 s5 turbo motor in my 79 and as a result of a drunk friend's actions the stock clutch cylinder has been uncerimoniously removed with a hammer.

Before I go buy a new clutch cylinder, I was wondering if I could use the 1991 clutch cylinder that I have. It looks very similar, but does anyone know if it will bolt up to my stock 79 pedal?

Thank you for your help
Chris

Hydraulic Threads 2006/12/28

Mazda used to use a coarse thread pitch, 1.25 mm, on brake and clutch hydraulic line fittings. Cars prior to the RX-7 used these coarse threads, and the RX-7 continued them through the end of the North American 1980 model year. 1981 and later North American RX-7s use the same size fittings, but with a fine thread pitch, 1.0 mm. This changeover typically causes frustration when not planned for in swapping later rear-ends or struts into 1979-80 cars, but can also happen via a breakdown in the new or rebuilt brake parts supply chain.

hmmm...well that sounds like an issue, but I do have the ss line that went from the 91 cylinder to the 91 trans, so if those are the only things that are threaded then it sounds like I shouldnt have to worry? no?

thank you

but the hard lines will still have the coarse thread fittings.

Hi guys. just to bring this back up.

I want to bolt my s5 clutch master cylinder to the 1979 clutch pedal assembly.

Will this be possible?

Nope.

FC has a 45 degree stud position. FB and older are straight positioned.

Someone asked a similar question recently, which I answered as well.

hmmm... i see that. but if i drill two new holes for the 45 degree studs and mount it...the 79 clutch pedal will actuate the cylinder right? maybe? haha

Hey guys, for anyone interested. I did install the fc clutch master cylinder in my 79 and to the 79 pedal assembly today.

It works great. I had to loosen the brake assembly in order to slide the clutch cylinder past and had to drill two new holes but otherwise it bolts right in and works great!

Thanks again for all you advice!
