s4 s5 turbo in fb
So I just picked up a s5 turbo for my blow through project. I was wondering what down pipes people are using, and the s5 needs water and oil feed. I know what to do about oil feed and drain, but what about water? Is it necessary that they be used? I was thinking about picking up the RB downpipe and just doing a custom exhaust after that. Who is running blow through and what's do you feel might be applicable advise for me. I've got everything else figured out. Just hoping someone might cue up something I left out.

if you want specifics I'll be running a 13b 4 port frankenstien. It'll be a gslse with 12a end plates making it a 4 port 13b. I'm going to either to a big street port or a small half bridge. I'm not sure if the turbo will be able to handle a half bridge though. I know guys are running t04b half bridges successfully, but dunno about a stock s5 turbo. It'll be blowing through my 45dcoe with 40mm chokes.
Water cooling isn't necessary, but wouldnt hurt. Im not sure where to plumb it in if you want to incorporate it. (S4 turbos are water and oil as well.) Id go with a custom 3" DP if you can find a shop to mandrel bend you one. Id also look into a custom exhaust manifold as well. Im sure FB II and others can answer your questions more effectively...
yea, i do not use the water cooling. just oil feed/return. i make sure to cruise slowly for a bout a mile or so before i get to my destination and then let it idle for a minute to make sure the oil has cooled off a good bit before shutting it off.
as for a downpipe, i made my own 3" mandrel bent exhaust. the downpipeis actually welded to the piece of the turbo that covers the wastegate area. this way i didnt have to worry about denting anything in for the studs and nuts to fit
works out beautifully. comes off just as easy and seals up fine.
depending on where the turbo will actually sit will be the deciding factor on whether an rb downpipe will work or not.

Its sold seperately or with the kit, same as the presilencer, which I also have.I keep it as a "race" muffler to replace my PowerPulse should I want to go loud.
The Mazdatrix page is old and still lists it as mild steel too.The newer stainless version I have is very nice. Its almost unreal how light it is....

I'm going to use a seperate 3" dump off the turbine and 2.25" dump off the wastegate.
You can tap the water pump housing for the water feed and weld a fitting into the heater return hardline for the return.

I used a RB 3in downpipe. It fit pretty good but I had the exhaust shop just bend it 1/2in or so to get more ground clearance. With my RB springs every little bit helps with speed bumps. It is the flange that hangs the lowest on mine.

That's tight I was looking at the turbo thinking about this, but I didn't say anything cause I figured some one was going to talk ish aboot the idea. I gues that'll work then. LOL.
FB II have you seen any of the RB DP on a stock turbo with renes header? so you think that would work? i dont see why it wouildnt. i think it would actually make it better.
no, it will not work because it dumps almost straight down. first off it would hit the frame, then after that it would be in the firewall. my downpipe alone is maaasssive. the rb one doesn't have the proper angle or length.

that's another reason i'm glad i had to make my own... i was able to have it 3" directly from the turbo all the way back.
and yes, Rene is the rx3mist guy. amazing welder and great turbo header fabricator.... amongst other things.
