RxTuner article on FB big brakes upgrade

I just receive my latest issue of RxT and there is an article on the FB Big Brake Install. Am I missing something, but I could not find a maker/seller of the kit or the adapter sleeve to install a 4/5 lug 2nd gen brake rotor/caliper to a FB front end.

Does anybody know anything about these upgrade kits?

didn't the article say you needed a wheel spacer or something during the install directions?

yes they did!!

I was asking myself the same question when I read the article "Who makes the kit?"

I think they forgot to mention it.

I look forward to seeing the CP kit, but I think it's more of a brake swap. Although the TII set up is very good, I think that this is more of a big brake kit: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...8&page=1&pp=15

haha I just checked and that is correct, CP Racing isn't mentioned. What's really funny is that the article was written by Mr. CP Racing himself, Chris Campitelli.

I read that article 3 times, and really don't feel that good about the brake upgrade. To get a better 'review' CP should send me the kit and let me write the article.

Why use '88 turbo brake calipers/brakes and not a more common 4 piston braking system off the GXL cars?

I would like to see what parts make up the installation kit, wouldn't you?

You ever read the author's how-to instruction and try to follow them. Well there is a lot of holes in this article, if CP intent is to sell us on the idea of upgrading our brakes, then have a 6th grader write the instuctions.

The Selectmaz brake kit is cheaper than the 7s only kit because of the $$$ conversion from Aus.
Its not quite as big (12"), but it uses simple, factory TII calipers(easy to bleed, and over the counter pad availbility).
Stops my car great and looks good behind 17s.

12' rotors are big to me. The 7's only kit uses 11.75in rotors. The outlaw calipers where not hard to hard to bleed.

Have any pictures of your Selectmaz set up?

I would like to see pics of the selectmaz set up installed on a car also.
right now I am thinking the best way is to have the stock disk/hub machined to accept common racing disk and make a bracket for four piston calipers.

Maybe you guys should look at my brake conversion. My understanding is that any 2nd gen car with 5 bolt hubs has the 4 pot aluminum calipers and 11 inch ventilated discs front and rear. My hubs, brakes, and in fact the BBS wheels, came from a 1990 convertible. I spent a lot of time figuring out how to do the conversion, and my machinist, who also happens to be an automotive engineer, figured out the exact dimensions and fabricated the conversion parts. I was not aware that anyone else had done this.

The parts for my conversion are shown on page 1 of this web site:

http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/646433

Note there are 4 pages there. My machinist would be willing to make more parts, but he is too busy to re-engineer it for other years, so the parts only work for a 1984-85 RX-7 front strut (i.e., large axle), and the rear parts only fit a GSL or GSL-SE (disc brake). He also made a spacer for my front wheels, about 1 1/4 thick, so I could use the BBS alloys. However, for this 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern, there are a million wheels available, and you should be able to get any offset you want. I used the BBS because they are very light and they were free!

I can provide lots of detail photos if someone will volunteer to host them somewhere.

Almost all 86-91 2nd gen with five lug had the same 11" rotors and 4 piston calipers. That includes,Sport,TII,Vert GXL,GTU and GTUs.Actually, except the SE and Base, pretty much ALL the 2nd gens had the big brakes. The exception is the last couple years, all the cars had five lug but the strippers still had small brakes.

Oh yea,almost forgot.....RG....droolworthy!

For those asking about my 2nd gen brake conversion, what I paid my machinist is not what you want to know - I paid for the engineering and the fabrication. I will get a price quote and post in a few days.

And for Thricerx7 - everyone who has seen my car in the flesh, including many RX7 owners, has been very complementary, and the most common thing I hear is that it looks like a factory installation. Everyone who hears the rumble of the V8 seems to love it. Everyone seems to like the idea, the street rodders, the rice burners, and anyone who has actually done any car modifications something themselves.

The only crap I have ever gotten is from people on the web who have just seen photos, and whom I strongly suspect have never built ANYTHING.

Stilletoman

Nice Job on the Vert's.
The one with the RX-4 Rear end is superb. Very trick way to give
it that little exotic look.

That SE convertible was very nice as well.

Good Work.

cp racing brake upgrade

is anyone currently using the brake upgrade kit from CPracing for the FB that allows usage of the turboII rotors and calipers . i was so close to impulsively buying it but want to hold out and see who is using it and what thier feedback on the kit is. i want to know what exactly im getting for $375 . considering i have to get the calipers rotors off a 2nd gen .
i read a while back of a guy in Canada that did it himself . he did a writeup on it on this link here . check it out it should be the same thing that CPracing is doing . so he's probably just fabricating a rear seal .anyway here is the link
