RX8 seats install in SA/FB

I have a feeling I'm out alone on the Bleeding Edge here, but has anyone else tried to install RX8 seats in their RX7? Got a brand new set (thank you ebay) and am somewhat daunted by the task ahead...tips or thoughts?

Just a guess. Flip the seats upside down and unbolt the rails from both sets of seats and see if the rails from the 7 fit the 8 seats.

Hopefully the RX8 CPU doesn't control the seat motors also...

Even if the rails are not a bolt on match, it should be fairly easy to fab a custom addater to install the SA/FB rails on the RX-8 seats.

Post some pics of the mechanics, and I will follow up with soem advice.

I guess I'll bite, since I have some indirect experience...

First you want to check to see the bottom profile of the passenger seat. The FB/FC seats have almost identical profiles. The seat is actually contoured to the floor pan nearest the transmission tunnel. If the RX-8 seats don't have the countour and are flat (like most aftermarket seats), you will need to have a custom braket made to angle the left side slider and to space out the right side slider from the seat. This will make the passenger side seat sit level, but higher.

The drivers side is a little easier since the floor pan profile is flat, and not slanted like the passenger side. The easiest way to make seats other than stock fit is to use the stock sliders, then fabricate an interface braket with the mounting holes of the seat and slider. You bolt the interface bracket to the seat, then the assembly to the slider. Viola, you're 1/2 done. Before you do this, you need to figure out where your seat center is located and that the RX-8 seat center is located directly behind the steering wheel. It is not a 100% guarantee that the seat mounting holes are spaced 100% square to the seat centerline.

Hope my advice helps you out... I'm still searching for a passenger side leather T2 seat for my full interior upgrade.

Thanks Joe-!
I sort of figured there was going to be some sort of adapter needed. Good point on the passenger side differences, as well as a heads-up on the centering of the drivers seat! Any other thoughts? I wonder if some Recaro, etc. adapter kit would be helpful??

Take a look here. These are some pictures of a Recaro install into a FC. It might give you some ideas....

Thanks for the pix Joe! I know it will help to lay the 2 seat types beside each other to figure the best way to adapt. I wonder if Recaro (or others) make a generic kit for SA/FB/C cars? I guess a web search and a few phone calls to find out more...

Hi Folks-
will photo this weekend the underside of the RX8 seats for your viewing pleasure/input. Carl, I should be so lucky that the brackets would just swap out (I can see the RX8 design guys in a meeting..."and the new seat should be a dilect fit into oliginal SavannaRX7...") - and will be happy to photo install if/when!

Oh- cost:
$357 via ebay. Donor '8 was race-converted, 27miles on it.
Don't ask what they cost to ship to Alaska...and of course they were in Florida
(guess it could have been worse: like Puerto Rico).
