RX7 Info Appreciated

I have always been a Mazda lover...I have had a '92 MX3 and currently own a really nice '97 MX6 LS. I have a chance to pick up a pretty decent '85 RX7 with about 155,000 kilometers on it. Since I have always liked the '7, I will probably buy it. What are the good points and the bad points to watch for on the '85? Although I have yet to see or drive this particular car, I believe it is the 12A engine in this one. Any info and comments are appreciated.

well I have said this 1000x in the last threads with the same question lol.. Take a phillips screwdriver with you when you goto look at it and take the rear bins out and check for wheel well rust, this can be killer on these cars.

Besides this start the car up ensure that the choke functions flawless, the car idles at 750-800 rpms and is smooth. Make sure that the car does not smoke much when warmed up. Take the car for a spin and when it is warmed up take it up to the redline to make sure that it is smooth all the way to 7k.

All in all if the car is in good condition and your not afraid of a rotary engine go for it. Its best to plan ahead and learn all about the rotary yourself because most mechanics have no idea what a rotary even is. (even most mazda dealerships)

Good luck, RX-7's are great cars IMPO and I have loved mine since the day I got it...

if the cars body is in good condition and the interior is in fair shape with motor running strong with 155k on it 1,500 dollars sounds like a pretty good deal.

I paid 2,250 for my car (CDN) and it was in very good condition besides some minor rust that is getting fixed. Like I said before these are great cars and you can really confuse people when you tell them your car has no pistons.
