Rx7 buy, 84, but blown engine I think

Gentlemen,

Just woundered what you might think??

Have an opportunity to buy a 1984 S mdl. 12A in fair shape maybe??

The price is $150.00,

The only rust is on the driver side on the rocker pannel, has slight damage to right rear fender, with light lenzes broken.

The car has been sitting sinse April of this year and ran up to then. The fellow insisted on starting the engine and MUCH BLUE SMOKE EVERYWHERE!! Yet the engine idled very smoothly. I let it run for 5 minuets or so to let it warm and then tried to speed up the rpm which responded but very slowly to 5000 rpm. The muffler is missing and there was no engine exhaust sounds or others as well. Sounded very quiet.

I am woundering if the cat is blocked with seal material that has blown into the exhaust system??
And what do you guys think about the reason for the smoke and its source?
Does this engine possibly have good rebuild potential?
If the exhaust is blocked, can this be cleared and reused?? I would like to put it on my 83 and then an opened up the exhaust from the cat back.

Thanks, you people do good work.

Sounds like it's got potential. It might be smoking due to a faulty oil metering pump (stuck open, which isn't that bad, mine was stuck closed and killed my engine). It's probably got a bunch of gunk in it too. If you buy it, or even before, try the MMO treatment. You can find the instructions by searching for MMO.

Several things can cause a motor to smoke when it has been setting. Check the carb to make sure it looks to be functioning right. Check the choke. Check the omp. Check to see if the oil in the motor is still oil. Also remember any time a rotary sits oil can some times seep through the oil control rings and when it is restarted it will burn the oil out. Me i would check over it closely. then change the oil and mmo it and then let is run for a while and see if it clears up. Also Check the oil cooler and make sure it is in good shape those thing are expensive to replace.

Thanks,

I told the guy about the smoke and he offered it to me for $100.00 I took it and will borrow his trailer to haul it home. For once something may turn out to a good buy for a change.

Best regards,
