Rx7 to be auctioned off, What is Value??

Hey guys,

Had an interesting experience last Saturday. Was at the Good Will store and they have several donated cars to sell at auction. I look in the lot and see this Rx7, Brown, 1st Gen, at the back of the lot. I wanted to go look but am sternly or worse thretened to be arrested if I go beyond the lot enterance and in fact was told to get lost.

Well being an ex Marine, and wanting to check out a potential purchase, I surveyed the situation and noted tall weeds surounding the lot and a R/R running along side of their lot. Hmmm!!

I took walk down the R/R track, low crawled through weeds and found after about 25 yards myself positioned 2 ft behind the Rx. I had to lay low and was able to see no rust, drum brakes, no damage except to the right front jack point, good tires, no license plate, finish is nice and shinny, exhaust system looked good but had only one tail pipe on the muffler. There was no oil slick or evidence of a blown engine.

I am thinking this may be a good car! I could not see if the trans is manual or auto. The car may be an 80 through 83. What do you guys think a fair price would be to pay?? I do get to view the car 1 hr before bidding takes place. What else should I look for to make an evaluation? I really want one of these cars to use for daily driving. My 83, I intend to race.

Any thoughts will be welcomed.

Best regards,
THC

It depends on where the bidding starts at and who really wants it.

I wouldn't go over $500, but that's me.

If they dont start it dont buy it. If they do listen to it carefully for evidence of missing or sputtering. If it sounds good and move on its own, dont buy for more than 900. also how bad is the lift point damaged? Is the lift rail bent or the surrounding area?

peace

i agree, if they don't start it ..assume it is trashed...don't buy it and assume it will start, assume it will not....bu I would see if they will try and start it. Drum brakes mean its a gs model or lower. Got a sunroof?.... look at worst case scenerio and offer 300-500 and at worst, you have a parts car. At best, maybe it needs a little this and a little that and it will run decent...good luck...
