I have an 82 and the Tach does not work, I checked the leads on the coil and they are good, what else can I check? Any help is appreciated.

 

Check the leading ignitor, on the back of the distributor.

 

yeah - check the leading igniter. it's gonna be on the passenger side of the distributor. you'll have to loosen up the alternator and unscrew two screws to get it off.

you should be able to find an igniter or two on thepartstrader.com for pretty cheap. i think i paid $25 for the two of mine.

its trailing, not leading, I need to quit drinking...

 

My trailing ignition is fine but my tach doesn't work. My leading ignition is the problem. Perhaps someone reversed the wiring on some cars?

 

Try swapping the ignitors and see if you get a change. That will rule out the ignitor part.
