Question rx-7 or no rx-7?

For anyone who takes the time to read this and replies, I greatly appreciate it. I had a 79 rx-7 acouple years ago. I loved the car. It got broad sided in a parking lot and since then I purchased a 97 z28 convertible that I have done substantial mods to. I just found a 82 rx-7 in good condition for $1500. Its a gsl and has 118,000 on it. the interior is in great condition, and it needs some body work, which I could do myself. It does backfire during shifts and on deceleration, but my '79 did that too. I have acouple questions. First, should I buy it. Second, there are no emission tests where I live so if I do buy it, should I take the cats and thermal reactor off to stop the backfire? I heard that stops the backfire. any input would be great.

Exactly. Buy it, put a decent exhaust system on it with extractors, and you'll be cheerin.

Rotaries backfire every now and then, especially in the high revs...that's just natural.

Depends on what you wanna get... here in Oz you'd be looking at around $800 for a kick *** system

offer 1,000. then buy it. if you change the exhaust you will need to cap a few things off also. heck my first one i just took the cat off, slammed a big rod through a bunch of times and put it back on. you would be happier with a good exhaust and intake set up though. good luck with your decision.
