RX-7 85 Speedo Problem

RX-7 85 Speedo Problem
My RX-7 Speedo stopped working on the way to work today 
It started making a loud click noise when I would accel and was jumping all over the place.. where is the spedo conected on these cars the tranny or rear axles... or do you guys think it something in the the panel???
