RWL 205/60R13 found!

I was looking around and found some more RWL 205/60R13 tires. I have the
Cooper Cobras and they work fine, not a performance tire by any means but a
good DD tire and of course they look awesome with the RWL.

So if your looking for that oh so 80s look, check the link out. Theres 3 choices for
you at tire-easy.com. I've never dealt with them but I've heard of others getting
tires from them successfully.

http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.p...hen=View+tires

Heres what he Cooper look like cause I know someone will say I need pics or whats
a RWL tire.

The Cobras are essentially the same tire I'm running; Futura is a hous brand made by the same company. Thoroughly satisfied with them - - including on the couple of canyon runs I've been on this last year.

You need to run them near max pressure, though; following the door sticker suggested pressure setting give you a truly scary amount of sidewall flex.

Oh I remember that alright Micheal. I noticed the stingers when the tires-easy. com
search came up and remembered those as the tires you opted for.

DD, these tires are alright but they're just not the same and the old RE-71s I had.
They make a lot of noise when you puch them and they are abrupt when you get
to the limit on them. I've had em around RA a few times and they're kind of scary
over 100 mph.

I just wanted folks to know there are still RWL tires out there for our stock rims
in a desirable cross section.

& I'm glad to hear it, too.

You're right that the Cobras/Futuras are street, not high-performance tires.

They are ok for getting spirited in the twisties (& after a couple decades of driving my SA I've come to expect that abrupt breakaway at the limit), but would NOT consider running them at/above 100mph for any length of time - - they are not speed-rated for it.

I'd be interested in hearing how the Stingers perform in comparison, should anyone grab up a set. Even though I'm not likely to need tires for a long time, it's always good to have and know your options!

In February I picked up a set of Hercules HP 4000 in 205/60-13 with RWL.

http://www.herculestire.com/catalogH...ulesHP4000.asp

I haven't put a many on them, but so far they seem to be quiet and smooth around town and at highway speed with decent grip when you start tossing the car around. To the point, where I now have to make a concerted effort to break the back-end free around wet corners.

These replaced the 15 year old dry-rotted Star Brand tires in 185/70 13 that came on the car when I bought it, so really anything would be better -- but they seem to be a nice GT tire. Not sure it would hold up to sustained high speed or be great autocrossing. They suit my needs though.

kinda pricey for 13" tires that aren't of a performance series...but on the other hand, they look great, are a hair wider and probably perform reasonably well. i may just order a set the next go round..

the sumis i was running did better than these stingers. and i think that having new KYB's on it didn't help none. bill said it looked like it raised it alittle. i was very displeased with all the money i spent.

I'd like a nice rdot tire at a reasonable price (<$100.00 per tire ) with or without
RWL is ok as long as its 205/60-13 in size. Something good to 130-150 mph thats
streetable. My old Bridegstone RE-71 fit the bill perfectly but no 13inchers from them
anymore.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. The Tire Distributor I called looking for 13 inchers had them available in his warehouse. He only had 7 in stock, but said that he was expecting another bunch of them from Hercules in the coming weeks. It's probably worth a phone call to a local distributor/installer.

WI Just found $39 Yokohamas.

Was looking around at available tires. Found these - not for me, but with that price, SOMEONE might want them.

Talking New/old source found for this tire size!

I found a place that you can get Cooper and Radial TAs in RWL. Plus some
other options for 205/60R13 performance tires including Vredestein. The
place is eurotire.com and they will freight them to you. For instance I asked
them for a quote on Vredestien Sprint Classics in that size. These tires are
V rated.

Vredestein Sprint Classic Tire Euro-Tire FAIRFIELD, NJ (973) 575-0080

Heres what they sent back:

The Sprint Classic's in 205/60R13 cost $140 ea. plus $20 per tire for
freight. Call 800 631 0080 to place an order.

No its not cheap but they are available. I didn't ask about the coopers or radial
tas yet. I can understand the sprints being expensive since they are V rated.

Its still cheaper than going thru Coker or some other vintage tire manufacturer.

I also talked to some mini guys at the last C&C and they get their tires from the UK
where they still have lots of 12 and 13 inch wheels being used. I'm sure thats not
cheap either.

Their selling points are outsanding!
  • High-grade tyre technology
  • Classic look
  • Ultra-safe
  • High-grade tyre technology: Ultra-safe Up-to-date comfort

Both up-to-date AND classic! Those things look super high grade, and dood I bet they're ultra safe.

But seriously those seem rather spendy and not that high performance. I'm going to try my hand and painting the lettering on my Sumitomo's. Will post results when done.

It's sad to see the RWL tires going the way of the DoDo - I honestly like the 13" RWL stockies better than almost any other rim I've ever seen on an FB.

I dunno, my Coopers cost me $80 a piece and they are only S rated. The Vredesteins are excellent tires and V rated (140 mph).

I'm going to ask them the price for the same size in the radial tas and coopers.

BAH! Heres the reply from eurotire on the Cobras and TA pricing.

Neither the TA’S, nor the Cobras are available, or scheduled for production.

I wrote Mickey Thompson about 13, 14 inch tires and the market for them, maybe you could too. They're small enough, so I think, that they could do it and have quite a market among Japanese, British car guys.
