rusted out in the cargo areas, HELP!!!
After removing the cargo compartments on a friends advise, I found... RUST... I was told this was quite common. Is this something that I can patch with fiberglass and never worry about again? OR do I have to find someone in the North-Jersey area with a portable welder that can come to my place and do the job. (I don't have the car registered yet)
I would prefer that it would be a fiberglass job as it would be cheaper, I could do it, It wouldn't rust out again and I wouldn't have to worry about flames.
I obviously need advice. The car is new to me, it is a 1984 base RX-7, that won't see the road until sometime next year, at the earliest.

Here is a link to my restoration work, and what I did to fix it.

You have a few options
1. Weld in new metal
2. Sell the car and get a rust free one
3. Just drive it
This happened to me also, I got a 85 S thinking I got a pretty good deal only to take the storage bins out a few weeks after I bought it to find BAD rust. I ended up selling it because I'm looking for a solid foundation to start a T2 engine into a 1st gen project. This is a very bad area for these cars to rust because the upper part of the suspension mounts so close to the weekend area the rust has made. I live in Minnesota where everything rusts and I've herd of one instance where the rear end was almost falling out of the car because both top mounts simply broke off because of the rust! These cars they like to rust from the inside out so if there's rust outside you can imagine what it looks inside. When ever I go and look at a 1st gen now I bring a screwdriver to pop out a storage bin to take a look at this area, If there's any rust I walk away. Now I may be too picky for some people but I just want a SOLID car to start my project.
Good luck with what you decide to do

It looks like I'll get it welded. I just hope to find someone to do it for me.
As for selling the car and getting another one, given that the car only cost me $100.00 and the rest of the car is in fairly good shape. Nah, I think I'll keep her. She'll be fun to have around.
;-)
I just hope my wife doesn't get jealous...
