If you're looking for show car then ya I agree on the welding.

I assume the rust is in the front inside corner near the top. This is common on these cars and you'll find that it likely goes right through to the interior. Take out the compartment boxes to reveal the other side.

I fixed mine by chipping away the rust, applying a rust converter, then fiberglassing the inside with a matt and fiber. Then the fiberglass provides backing for a nice layer of tar in the wheel well.

Don't put any kind of converter on it. Cut it out until there is no cancer, then go beyoud it just a little to make sure. You will have to cut out all the layers and make a hole. Then weld in new peices.

I have a real good set I could cut out of a car for you. Better yet it is the car with the motor I was telling you about. So you should just come get the car and the motor.

Felgar, in about a year you will see the fiberglass start cracking, and rust comming through it. Its happening to mine now. On my SE that im working on i used a torch and cut out all and any rust that i saw, then pounded out some new tirewells and welded them in. Just to be safe at that point i POR-15ed the whole setup, then put fiberglass over it. Rust be damed.

I beg to differ Blitz... That was 6 years ago and there's no sign of any deterioration from what I was left with right after I did it.

I may not have explained myself carefully enough though. I also chipped and ground any of the hevaily rusted spots away so that where there was any rust left it was just a thin film not to the point where the metal had begun to deform. So it was surface rust only as well as pits that were left in what I had ground. For the most part I also cut the rust completely away.

Edit: I should also point out that the converter I used was called One-Step and although other products claim to do the same thing I know from experience that they do it much less effectively (the clear "Rust Converter" chemical works differently than One-Step). And for God's sake NEVER use that orange "Rust Destroyer".

Most of the rust that I fixed 6 years ago by chipping as far as I could down to metal and then applying the paint-on One-Step has not come back. However, in any area that is exposed to damage of any kind the One-Step regiment is not strong and quickly fails at the first sign of a rock ship or anything like that. So...

On my project RX that I'm just finishing I did the Por-15 regiment and I'm very pelased with the results. The Por-15 leaves me with the impression that it will be very effective based on it's strength and how it coats everything so well. I expect the Por-15 to last very well but only time will tell. I'll let you know in 5 years.
