Rust on Engine Removal?
I have some surface rust on my engine and would like to get rid of it and eventually paint it. What should I use to remove the rust? Sandpaper? Would somthing like C.L.R. work? What good for cleaning dirt and grease off the engine
Thanks

I used a degreaser and a power washer to remove most of the crud form the motor, then I sandblasted it to remove all rust before painting with a self-etching primer and engine paint.

I don't really have a sandblaster or good acess to one plus the motor is perfectly good, I not planning on rebuilding it or tearing it down. Just need to clean it.

I think it would be pretty tough to get it clean enough to paint without at least taking it out, and even with it out, I think it would tough to get it clean enough to paint without tearing it down. I really don't know how I'd go about doing that. Maybe someone here has done it before.
Good luck!

For rust removal, you can pick up a gallon of muriatic acid at most hardware stores for like 3 bucks. Use gloves, brush it on and let it sit a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
