Running no vac Advance

So we just got this 85 gls and it is missfiring alot.

I am sure this because the guy who had it before put on this custom made intake mani so he could fit a holley carb on there.

Problem is he just unhooked the timing advance vacuum line and plugged it, as well as the vacuum to the tranny.

Am I right or am I wrong that this would make the car run loopy?

There arent any vacuum connections on this carb or the manifold, any ideas what I could do to get these hooked up again?

It shouldnt make it run rough. If it is miss firing, usually is too lean. The idle mix screws should start at 1.5 turns out counter clock wise. If it is a stock port the jets should be in the low 60's and if any kind of porting work is done should be 65 or up. It may have lean jets and have the idle mix screws way rich.

ahh you amy have saved me. This guy was obcessed with gas mileage and did many things to save on gas.

This includes very small jets(cant remeber the number) as well as completley disconnecting two barrels on the carb and removing all carb components on the right side of the unit.

I bet thats whats doing it son of a b.

he also added a fuel regulator and set it all the way closed, and put two additional in line filters which were constricting some of the flow!

Woa, a Holley going for MPGs? wrong carb for that!

All those components on the side are only the choke actuator and the vacum secondaries pot, which you need to check and make sure the 2 holes that have vacum are plugged. start the car feel which has vacm then plug.

This guy you got the car from didnt know much about a rotary and a holley. If he wanted better gas milage he shouldnt have diconected the vac advance, that is exactly what they are for.

Also the FPR should be set at 6psi, you should check the float levels also, after you change out the jets. This car is about to run much better than previously! It is being starved for fuel!

leave the filters they shouldnt restrict. Leaner jets wont give you better MPGs, that will make you press the gas pedal more to make the accelerator pump, pump the gas to run and that is just dumping fuel instead of running off the main circuits which makes the engine just run nice and smooth!

do you think I should get the other two barrels going on this carb?

if so I guess I need a new one, he seems to have acutally hack sawed the components off.

btw it is a holley 0-1850S which I think the same as the racing beat one just un modded for rotary. Maybe I should get a racing beat holley?
